December 19 – 25, 2019
After 8 days of complete laziness on Koh Phi Phi, we continued the same trend on Koh Lanta. We didn’t pick nice accommodations but they were manageable. We had a peculiar neighbor outside of our balcony – a big lizard that was roaming around the property.
We spent most of our days at a nearby hotel that had a nice pool that all three kids enjoyed. Petra was the champ student at this location, catching up on all she missed by not having good internet on Koh Phi Phi. She worked on her classes daily while the rest of us did nothing except reading and swimming.
We did attend another Trash Hero event, cleaning up some beach 5 km north from where we were staying. This time, there were 57 volunteers (13 of them kids) and in two hours of work, we collected 26 bags of garbage, 4 bags of recyclables and a small bag of lighters.
We saw some beautiful sunsets on Koh Lanta. They were probably the highlight of our beach time.
Pedja and Petra started movie marathons watching Hobbit and then Lord of the Rings.
We led such a lazy life for those 6 days that the owner of the place mistook my kids for ‘well behind ones”. He once said ‘Oh, your kids are so well behaved. You all are very quiet after 9pm”. We were all asleep by 9pm, that’s how little action we saw during our stay there.
All in all, Thai beaches lived up to their good reputation. I could see us spending portions of our year in Thailand if we ever get to retire.
