This is what happens when you are held captive for a 3hr drive with no other electronics. You finally get to read more than 10 pages of a book in one sitting. To be precise, you actually read 170+ pages of 240 in total in one sitting and even continue reading it after the car ride is over.
The spell is broken, he finally believes he is a “real reader” since he now reads more than the bare minimum.
Trigger motivation = his friend Ella who is a whiz kid reading several chapter books per week in 1st grade. When he heard what (and how much) Ella reads, he was motivated to be like her (his secret crush).
