We now have 2 kids in NZ schools. This one will be attending high school here in Christchurch for the next couple of months. She ended up getting into a Specialist Music Program vía her connection with the UC Christchurch Youth Orchestra, where she has been playing violin since July of last year. Thirty years ago, I was a foreign exchange student in the States. It turned out to be a life-shifting experience for me. I’m now looking at Petra’s experience in NZ as the best possible foreign exchange program. She will have all the fun of experiencing a different culture and academic system without the challenge of another language or living away from her family. All in all, one more win in our unexpected year in NZ.
